Brno has an excellent food and drink scene, if you ask me, and my readers’ tips only proved the point. More and more places here are about the experience, with creative spaces and ideas to match. Next time you’re in Brno, pick a restaurant, bar or café from this list. And if you’re after Asian groceries, head out to the Vietnamese market too.

I wrote this article in 2019. Prices, opening hours and connections may have changed since then, so check them before you travel.
The best places to eat and drink in Brno? When I recently published an article on what to see in Brno and shared it on Facebook, you flooded me with tips on great restaurants, bars and cafés in Brno. My Facebook practically exploded.
My readers’ tips for the best places to eat and drink in Brno
I thought it would be a shame to leave these tips sitting in Facebook comments, so I’ve gathered them all in this article. If you can think of others, please add them in the comments. And once again, a big thank you. I think I tied my fingers in knots at least three times typing all those tongue-twisting names of restaurants, bars, cafés and other places in Brno. I like that Brno’s food scene is going all in on the experience, with wildly creative spaces and names. So here goes, Brno. These are the best places to eat and drink in Brno.
The best restaurants, cafés and bars in Brno
To help you find your way, I’ve marked all the places that are still open on the little map below. Green marks the bars, red the restaurants and blue the cafés.
Good restaurants in Brno
Brno has so many restaurants that if I wanted to try every one worth trying, I’d have to move here. Here’s the pick of what you recommended.
- U Dřevěného vlka and U Dřevěného orla: apparently it’s worth booking a table here, and the food is good and reasonably priced. Inside, they’re done out in real style, like a forest, with trees and foxes painted all over the walls.
- La Patas in Brno is a long way from the centre, but I don’t mind. At least there won’t be hordes of tourists, so the atmosphere should feel all the stronger. It’s an Italian restaurant in Brno that doubles as a pizzeria.
- Havana is a Cuban restaurant in Brno. When I looked at the photos on Google, I nearly fell off my chair: it looks seriously stylish. I’ve been to Cuba, and although the food there did nothing for me, I trust this restaurant has tuned it up to local European standards.
- U Fidela had the same owner as Havana. Today it’s called Our Story, and you’ll find it in the Líšeň district, a stone’s throw from Havana.
- 4 pokoje is right in the historic centre. It’s a sort of bar and restaurant serving snacks, and judging by the photos, a late-night bar too. The name is Czech for ‘four rooms’, so I can’t help wondering whether they really have four.
- Hostinec U Bláhovky has very good reviews on Google, so, on your recommendation, it also made my list of restaurants in Brno that are worth a visit.
- Beer Stable, or Pivní stáj, is a bar and burger joint. It’s a combination I never tire of, though the calories are another matter.
- Eggo Truck Brno started out as a food truck and is now a bistro on Dvořákova Street in the centre. They make great coffee too. Thanks for the tip.

Stylish bars in Brno
I love stylish bars that offer more than great drinks: a bit of atmosphere, or a theme. Brno has several.
- SKØG Urban Hub is a mix of café, coffee roastery and, above all, bar. You can eat here too, of course, and I wasn’t sure which category to put it in. On Google, though, it’s listed as a bar in Brno.
- Super Panda Circus is said to be an experience in itself. From the photos, it looks genuinely classy, and more than just an ordinary bar. Thanks for this one.
- Several of you recommended Bar který neexistuje, ‘the bar that doesn’t exist’. The name alone is reason enough: on my next visit to Brno, I’m definitely going there for a drink.
- I’d heard of Pivní burza and Pivní burza 2.0 (the name means ‘beer exchange’) long before I started on this article. The price of beer here rises and falls like shares on a stock exchange, depending on how much of it guests are ordering at the time. There used to be two in Brno, but the one on Veveří Street closed in 2024, and today only the pub on Jánská Street is still open.
- Blues Bar Traubka is another of the bars in Brno you recommended. They cook traditional Czech food here too, fried cheese included.
- Veselá Vačice (the Merry Opossum) is on Běhounská Street, so I suspect every běhna (slang for a floozy) ends up here sooner or later. I fell in love with that name. The bar has since closed for good, though.
- Středověká krčma, the Medieval Tavern, offers period costumes as well as drinks, and now and then at the weekend a medieval sword fight might break out. I love themed places.

Cafés and cake shops in Brno
When it comes to sweet things, Brno holds its own too. The trouble is, the centre of Brno is tiny. Before you know it, you’ve gone from a restaurant to a cake shop and rounded off your trip in one of the bars above. Thanks for the tips.
- Podnebí (the name means ‘climate’) is a stylish little café that also does good cakes. Once again I can’t help pointing out how playful one city can be with the names of its bars and cafés. I think I’ve just fallen in love with Brno.
- Air Café serves good drinks as well as cakes. I no longer pour alcohol into my coffee, but each to their own.
- La Donuteria is in a shopping centre. As a rule, restaurants, bars and cafés in shopping centres put me off, but apparently this one is worth it for the doughnuts. In Slovak, I’m told, a doughnut is a šiška, and in Czech a kobliha. However, La Donuteria in Brno has since closed.
- Kafe & Kobliha says it all: coffee and doughnuts. It’s a little further from the historic centre, but so what? You’ll need to burn off those calories anyway, won’t you?
- Monogram Espresso Bar is a nice little café in the city centre that I’d like to try.
- Čajovna Probuzený slon, or the Awakened Elephant Tearoom in English, has a nice ring to it too. I don’t go to tearooms, but this name would lure me in. The tearoom has since closed, though.

The Vietnamese market in Brno
Vinamo is a Vietnamese market well outside the centre of Brno. It sells fresh Vietnamese groceries, so if that’s your thing, off you go.
I have to say, Brno is one big gastronomic orgasm. The last time I was here, I left with a really good feeling about the place, and next time I’m playing it safe. I’ll pick one of these restaurants, bars and cafés in Brno that you recommended. Thanks again, and bon appétit, Brno.
